AASM posts sleep apnea testing policy scorecards for three payers

The AASM has posted scorecards for the diagnostic sleep apnea testing policies of AIM Specialty Health, UnitedHealthcare and eviCore.

The scorecards are the first to be developed by the AASM Payer Policy Review Committee, which is responsible for encouraging correct adoption of AASM guidelines by insurers. The Committee carefully reviewed the insurers’ policies and assigned a score based on whether the coverage criteria in these policies align with AASM evidence-based recommendations. The scorecard’s nine criteria correspond to the clinical practice recommendations contained in the AASM’s Clinical Practice Guideline for Diagnostic Testing for Adult Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
