EHR Integration

In years past, administrative technology severely lagged behind the capabilities of physicians and advanced care providers, who were forced to rustle through filing cabinets and paperwork to coordinate quality care for patients. Integrated electronic health record (EHR) systems now offer the opportunity to improve administrative efficiency in medical offices.

At their best, EHR systems are seamless, responsive, and accessible; however, for many medical practices, EHR integration has been a frustrating experience. With the AASM’s EHR Integration Resources, you can learn how to tailor your digital records to your needs as a sleep specialist. You also can view tips for working with your EHR vendor and read examples of how fellow members have integrated EHR systems into their practices.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine Board of Directors formed an EHR Integration Task Force in 2014 to assist members with understanding EHR integration and customization.  This Task Force developed an AASM member resource, A Handbook for Optimizing EHR use in Sleep Medicine, to improve clinician experiences with EHR integration.

Case Studies

The following case studies are examples of how sleep medicine professionals integrated electronic health records (EHR) systems into their practices. Although these are based on real scenarios, no actual patient information is included.
