The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is hosting the members only webinar, “Noridian TPE Audits: Necessity of Repeat Sleep Studies,” Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. The webinar will provide critical information on Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE) audits conducted over the past year by Noridian Healthcare Solutions, a Medicare Administrative Contractor.
Beginning in May 2023, AASM members reported numerous instances of Medicare audits and claims denials due to seemingly contradictory language in two local coverage determination (LCD) policies. The language in both LCDs is related to the medical necessity for retesting patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), particularly those who do not meet the adherence criteria during the initial 12-week trial of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy and need to requalify for a PAP device. The confusion surrounding the LCD language has created practice gaps, which have led to discrepancies between actual and ideal patient outcomes in the Pacific Northwest region.
AASM members are encouraged to register and attend this webinar to gain a better understanding of the guidance in the LCDs, which will increase compliance with testing/retesting requirements, ultimately enhancing patient care.
