The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is a National Obesity Care Week champion, supporting this nationwide effort to raise awareness of obesity, its treatments, weight bias, and access to care, while ensuring that the relationship between obesity and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is part of the discussion. National Obesity Care Week 2018 is Oct. 7 – 13.

The Obesity Action Coalition, The Obesity Society, the STOP Obesity Alliance, the Obesity Medicine Association, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery launched National Obesity Care Week to help create a society that understands, respects and accepts the complexities of obesity. Today, the disease of obesity affects more than 93 million Americans, and more than 33 percent of Americans are affected by excess weight.

National Obesity Care Week brings the topic of obesity to the forefront and helps individuals with obesity get access to science and clinically based treatments.
