During the month of May 2010, the AASM is offering a 50-percent discount on all supplementary scoring modules from the Accredited Sleep Technology Education Program (A-STEP). These modules, not currently required to take the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) certification exam, were developed in response to feedback from the BRPT that scoring has become an area of the exam in which candidates are struggling. With scoring currently comprising 25 percent of the exam, it is imperative that technologists preparing to become credentialed receive thorough training on the rules of scoring as published in the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.
The 4 A-STEP supplementary scoring modules cover the following topics: 1) Waveforms; 2) Sleep Stages; 3) Scoring Respiratory Events; and 4) Arousals, EEG Abnormalities, Movements and Cardiac Events. To take advantage of this half-off discount, get started by creating an account on the A-STEP website or by logging in to your existing account. Questions about these modules and the A-STEP program can be sent to astep@aasm.org.
