A new editorial in the January issue of SLEEP by Editor David Dinges, PhD, describes the important role of the journal in the recent growth of sleep science. He reports that original science submissions to SLEEP more than doubled from 2007 to 2012. Furthermore, the journal’s annual impact factor has been above 5.0 for the past four years, and its 5-year impact factor reached a high of 6.175 in 2012, which was higher than 95 percent of the 8,471 listed journals. Overall, a total of 6,081 scientific articles related to some aspect of sleep were published globally in 2012.
