What is MIPS?
Passage of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) has resulted in implementation of the Quality Payment Program, a new Medicare payment system designed to reward physicians for delivering high-quality, cost-effective care. The program is comprised of the following two participation tracks:
- Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs)
If you decide to participate in an Advanced APM through Medicare Part B, you may earn an incentive payment for engaging in an innovative payment model. If you choose to participate in MIPS, you will earn a performance-based payment adjustment. However, since sleep clinicians can only participate in an Advanced APM if they are affiliated with a large academic institution or healthcare center, most will select the MIPS track. Under MIPS, providers can potentially earn a positive payment adjustment based on submission of evidence-based and specialty-specific quality data. In 2017, your MIPS performance will be counted for three categories: Quality, Improvement Activities, and Advancing Care Information. Your chosen MIPS pathway (minimum, partial, or full participation) determines the amount of data required for your submission as well as the length of time over which data must be collected. MIPSwizard provides a platform for you to efficiently submit MIPS data to CMS, thereby helping you and your practice to make the most of your participation.
