Workshop summary explores circadian research and lung disease
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has posted an executive summary of the workshop, Circadian Clock at the Interface of Lung Health and Disease, which was held April 28-29, 2014. The workshop assessed recent circadian genomic findings and identified opportunities to apply these discoveries to advance the understanding of lung disease pathophysiology and the ability to diagnose and treat pulmonary conditions such as asthma, COPD, IPF, pulmonary hypertension, acute lung injury, and sleep apnea.
Attend the NTSB drowsy driving public forum on Oct. 21
AASM members are encouraged to attend the highway safety forum, Awake, Alert, Alive: Overcoming the Dangers of Drowsy Driving, which will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Conference Center in Washington, D.C. Invited panelists, including AASM President-Elect Dr. Nathaniel Watson, will examine the risk factors associated with drowsy driving and address the challenges associated with mitigating the risk of drowsy driving among noncommercial drivers. The free event is open to the public, and no preregistration is required.
2013 Physician Quality Reporting System reports now available
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the 2013 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and 2013 Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program feedback reports are now available. The reports reflect participation in both programs between Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013. Providers interested in viewing their reports can do by logging into the Quality Reporting Portal.

Membership vote on Bylaws revision ends Thursday
Thursday, Sept. 25 is the final day to review the revised Bylaws of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The Board of Directors proposed the September 2014 revision primarily to promote clarity and ensure internal consistency. In order for the Bylaws to be adopted, membership must approve the changes.
Grant Opportunity: ASMF Focused Projects Award
The American Sleep Medicine Foundation recently announced the 2014 Focused Projects Award, a new type of funding opportunity. The AASM and its partners in the National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project are encouraging the public to make the pledge to Stop the Snore. The pledge is to talk to a doctor about sleep apnea, to encourage a bed partner to talk to a doctor or to help spread the word about the warning signs of sleep apnea.
