A study of 2,375 people with multiple sclerosis suggests that undiagnosed sleep disorders may be common among people with MS. Results of the study in the September issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine show that more than 70 percent screened positive for at least one sleep disorder: 37.8 percent for obstructive sleep apnea, 31.6 percent for moderate to severe insomnia, and 36.8 percent for restless legs syndrome. Physicians treating patients with MS need to be diligent in the screening, evaluation and management of sleep disorders, concluded the authors.
