On April 1, 2014, the National Sleep Research Resource (NSRR) was opened to the scientific community at Sleepdata.org. Funded by an NHLBI R24 Resource grant, the NSRR offers free Web access to large collections of de-identified physiological signals and clinical data elements collected in well-characterized cohorts and clinical trials to support research on risk factors and outcomes of sleep disorders.

Insomnia may blunt perception of facial emotions
Chronic insomnia is associated with reduced ratings of emotion intensity for face expressions, according to a study in the April issue of SLEEP. Patients with insomnia rated expressions displaying sadness and fear as significantly less emotionally intense than healthy good sleepers.
Fragmented sleep is associated with cognitive decline in older men
A study of older men in the April issue of SLEEP found that higher levels of fragmented sleep and lower sleep efficiency were associated with a 40 to 50 percent increase in the odds of clinically significant decline in executive function.
