As the New Year approaches, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine is introducing a new name for your telemedicine system: Tell A Sleep Doc is now AASM SleepTM.

Earlier this month we announced that sleep medicine practices can begin signing up for the state-of-the-art telemedicine platform that was designed specifically for the sleep field by the AASM. Subsequently, the AASM received a cease-and-desist letter from another company, which alleged that our name had infringed its trademark.

The AASM had received prior legal counsel advising that the name Tell A Sleep Doc could be registered and would be legally protectable. However, litigating this case would involve a protracted and costly legal process, which we determined would be an imprudent use of membership funds.

Therefore, the AASM has chosen to move forward with the name AASM SleepTM. Rest assured, this name change has no impact on the system’s functionality or capabilities. With both a secure video platform and special custom features such as an interactive sleep diary and sleep questionnaires, AASM SleepTM remains a comprehensive telemedicine system that was built for you by your professional society.

However, this transition does require that the AASM take the time necessary to update the system’s programming, website interface, graphic design and support materials to reflect the new name. This will be a considerable effort, which necessitates that we delay the previously announced public launch date of Jan. 4 until Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016.

In the meantime, I encourage you to register for AASM SleepTM today so that your sleep practice can begin the enrollment process and become familiar with the telemedicine system. Pricing is tailored to meet the needs of your sleep practice, with AASM accredited member facilities receiving the lowest prices available.

The New Year is the perfect time to integrate telemedicine as part of your sleep practice. Sign up for AASM SleepTM to expand your practice and enhance the quality of your patient care in 2016.

Sincerely,
