A study in the June issue of SLEEP shows that 5 minutes per day of inspiratory muscle training improves sleep and reduces blood pressure and plasma catecholamines in adults with obstructive sleep apnea. According to the authors, the results suggest that IMT offers a low cost, nonpharmacologic means of improving sleep and blood pressure in patients who are intolerant of CPAP.
