The NIH is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).
The director will provide strong and visionary leadership for a complex organization that has a budget of $1.3 billion and a staff of approximately 1,200 – including 620 full-time equivalent employees. The director works with colleagues in the scientific community at the NIH and beyond to advance the biomedical and behavioral research enterprise, providing leadership at the NIH, departmental and federal level in areas related to the specific mission of the institute.
In addition to leadership and managerial/administrative responsibilities, the incumbent may carry out his/her own research program. Resources commensurate with the proposed program will be provided.
The NICHD is located at the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Md., in offices in Rockville, Md., the NIH Animal Center in Poolesville, Md., and in a clinical research facility in Detroit, Mich. Applicants must possess an MD or PhD degree and have senior-level research experience and knowledge of research programs in one or more scientific areas related to pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and/or reproductive health.
