In the wake of the catastrophic earthquakes in Haiti, the AASM and the American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF) recognize the need for a rapid and generous response by the sleep medicine community. As such, the ASMF has formed a Haiti Relief Fund, launched by a $10,000 donation by the AASM. All members are encouraged to join us in this worthy cause that will help to ensure that critical medical support is provided to those affected by the earthquakes.
The AMSF will contribute 100 percent of donations received through this fund to Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian organization that delivers medical care to people caught in crisis. Donations to its Haiti relief efforts will go toward repairing the damaged obstetrics and trauma hospitals in Haiti. They also will go to transporting an additional 70 doctors and medical supplies to the island in an effort to set up makeshift emergency medical response centers.
In order to provide a timely response to the urgent needs in Haiti, all contributions to this fund must be received by the ASMF no later than Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. To make your donation, contribute online or by fax before the campaign deadline. Questions about this effort can be directed to Lisa Wallis at inquiries@discoversleep.org or 708-492-0930.
