As one of the updates to the Local Coverage Determination process, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) now allows Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) the discretion to host multi-jurisdictional Contractor Advisory Committees.  Contractor Advisory Committees were established to provide a formal mechanism for healthcare professionals to be informed of the evidence used in consideration of a proposed Local Coverage Determination (LCD) and to promote communications between the MACs and the healthcare community.  Some MACs require organizations to designate members and alternates, while others have completely opened the agendas and meetings to the public.  Visit the AASM website to identify your MAC jurisdiction and to be linked to your MACs website for more information regarding participation.  Click here to review the CMS transmittal, summarizing all changes to the CMS LCD process.
