The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) will review and vote on a resolution on May 3, 2008, which encourages all insurance companies in the state of Michigan to link reimbursement for sleep services only if performed in an AASM-accredited sleep center.

The resolution will be reviewed on May 3, 2008, in a committee hearing at the MSMS annual meeting. This resolution was drafted by George Zureikat, MD, an AASM member and sleep medicine specialist in Genessee County, Mich. All AASM members in Michigan are encouraged to attend the MSMS meeting and show your support for the resolution.

If the resolution passes the vote in the Committee hearing, it then moves to the MSMS House of Delegates for a final vote. The future of whether the resolution will become policy will be determined at that stage.
