Last week the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel accepted the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s application for a code change for actigraphy. The next step is for the application to be presented at the Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) meeting in April 2008. At this meeting, the AASM must present the RUC with primary information on physician work in regards to actigraphy. This data is a critical component of the application and will be considered heavily by the RUC.

As such, it is important for all AASM-accredited facilities and physician members that use actigraphy to complete a survey so that accurate and reliable information can be presented by the AASM. The more survey responses the AASM receives, the stronger the application.

Collected data must be representative, so participation from all types of facilities, (e.g., free-standing and academic-based, urban and rural) is imperative. If you are willing to take a few minutes from your day to complete the survey, please contact Ted Thurn at (708) 492-0930 or tthurn@aasm.org for information and instructions.

Survey responses must be received by Monday, March 17, 2008.
