HHS final rule establishes Oct. 1, 2015, compliance date for ICD-10

A final rule published Aug. 4 in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services establishes that the compliance date for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) is Oct. 1, 2015. The rule applies to both the ICD-10 Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) for diagnosis coding and the ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) for inpatient hospital procedure coding. The rule also requires the continued use of ICD-9-CM through Sept. 30, 2015.
