A randomized, controlled trial shows that self-administration of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) using a video can be effective in women with breast cancer. However, results published in the August issue of SLEEP show that CBT-I was more effective when patients received individual treatment during face-to-face sessions with a certified psychologist or PhD student in clinical psychology.
A commentary on the study notes that video-based CBT-I may be particularly useful for people with cancer, who may be too fatigued to attend several therapy sessions with a clinician.
