The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Office of E-Health Standards and Services (OESS) has announced that it will not initiate enforcement action through Jun. 30, 2012 against any covered entity required to comply with the updated transaction standards including Version 5010.

CMS is reporting that over 70 percent of all Part A claims and over 90 percent of all Part B claims are being successfully submitted in the Version 5010 format.  Additionally, commercial plans are reporting similar success.  The OESS has estimated that by the enforcement date, transition statistics will reach 98 percent industry wide.  Providers should turn to their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for educational resources.  Providers experiencing difficulty reaching their MAC regarding 5010 issues should contact CMS directly at providerfeedback@cms.hhs.gov and should indicated “5010 extension” in the subject line.
