National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, announced this week that Thomas R. Insel, MD, will step down as Director for the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) effective Nov. 1, 2015. After serving in this role for 13 years, Insel is planning to join the Google Life Sciences (GLS) team at Alphabet (formerly Google) to lead a new effort that will focus on mental health.
While a national search is conducted for a new NIMH Director, Bruce Cuthbert, PhD, will serve as NIMH Acting Director.
