In recognition of physicians’ professional responsibility to provide quality health care, the American Medical Association (AMA) began developing physician-level performance measures in 1998, and in 2000 started convening The Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (The Consortium). The Consortium is a physician-led initiative established to promote physician performance measurement that facilitates continuous clinical quality improvement.

As a stakeholder in the practice of sleep medicine, we would like to inform you that the AASM, in conjunction with the The Consortium, has developed a draft performance measurement set addressing the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea. The draft measures are now available for public comment.

Physicians wishing to submit comments on the draft measures should submit them via the Web site below. The Obstructive Sleep Apnea measures are available on the PCPI Web site: www.physicianconsortium.org. The comment period for this measurement set ends at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, September 2.
