The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has officially announced its support of the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Position on Prior Authorization and Utilization Management Reform Principles.

In its listing of 21 key principles, the AMA proposes a clearer and more patient-centered future for healthcare which will expand access to needed therapy. The AASM will advocate on behalf of this position at the November 2017 Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates, which will be held November 11th-14th in Honolulu, HI.

The AMA seeks further input from members of the AASM as to how prior authorization can negatively impact patient care. To discuss these issues, please email policy@aasm.org or call AASM advocacy staff at (630) 737-9700.
