A study in the March issue of SLEEP is the first to identify increased mortality in narcolepsy. Results show that narcolepsy is associated with approximately 1.5-fnew excess mortality relative to those without narcolepsy. According to the authors, it is unclear if the increased mortality observed in the narcolepsy population results from complications of the condition of narcolepsy, from comorbid conditions that carry their own increased mortality risk, or from a combination of both factors.
