According to a study in the May issue of the journal SLEEP, there is decreased regional cerebral perfusion during wakefulness in participants with moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea. Results shows that the affected brain regions are those in which decreased regional gray matter volume has been found in previous studies of people with severe OSA. The authors hypothesize that cerebral perfusion changes are evident before, and possibly underlie, future structural changes.
