The 2011 American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) sleep medicine certification exam will be the final opportunity for physicians to apply under the Practice Pathway; after 2011, all first-time applicants must have completed a sleep medicine fellowship program to take the exam. Please note that individuals who take, but are unable to pass, the 2011 exam will be allowed to reapply in subsequent years.

The AASM has several resources available to individuals preparing to take the exam. On Oct. 1–3, 2010, the AASM will host a Board Review for the Sleep Specialist course in Reston, Va. This course is now sold out. However, individuals interested in attending the AASM Board Review for the Sleep Specialist course will soon have the opportunity to register for one of the AASM’s 2011 courses, which will be held in three locations throughout the year:

  • March 17–20, 2011, in Los Angeles, Calif.
  • Aug. 11–14, 2011, in Denver, Colo.
  • Sept. 8–11, 2011, in Reston, Va.

Additionally, a recording of the August 2009 AASM Board Review for the Sleep Specialist course is available on CD-ROM and includes the PowerPoint presentations and mp3 audio files from the 2009 course. Course CDs may be purchased through the IntelliQuest website.
