These case-based slide sets provide an introduction to common sleep disorders. They are intended to improve recognition of sleep related breathing disorders, insomnia and narcolepsy by primary care physicians, and address typical complaints, risk factors, diagnostic testing and treatment issues.
The vignettes follow ten patients through an interview with the primary care physician that leads to a referral to the sleep center. The patient is evaluated at the sleep center, tested when necessary, given a final diagnosis and started on a treatment plan. The presentations highlight optimizing patient care through appropriate interaction between patient, primary care physician and sleep specialist.
