Following the high-profile resignation by former Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price, MD, over his misuse of public funds for chartered flights, President Trump has tapped Eric Hargan to be acting secretary of the HHS.

Hargan, who last week received Senate confirmation for his nomination to the role of deputy secretary of the HHS, has former ties to the HHS, serving during the George W. Bush administration in positions such as deputy general counsel, principal associate deputy secretary and acting deputy secretary.

A permanent successor to Price has yet to be named, and the timetable to name a replacement remains unclear. President Trump recently signaled that he will leave many appointed positions vacant across federal agencies.
