Revised policies for seven payers were recently reviewed by the AASM Payer Policy Review Committee, which develops and continues to revise payer policy scorecards to evaluate how effective payer policies are at establishing appropriate coverage for diagnostic sleep testing services.

The committee also seeks to encourage insurers to adopt evidence-based policies that support patient safety and delivery of high-quality care in alignment with the Clinical Practice Guideline for Diagnostic Testing for Adult Obstructive Apnea.

The AASM encourages members to review the scorecards and note changes in scores for each payer. The committee recently reviewed revised policies for the following payers:

  1. Aetna
  2. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
  3. Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina
  4. CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield
  5. Harvard Pilgrim
  6. Humana
  7. Priority Health

The revised scorecards are available for review and download on the on the Private Payers page of the AASM website. AASM members can send payer policy-related questions to coding@aasm.org.
