On July 7, 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule detailing proposals for payment and policies for services furnished under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule effective Jan. 1, 2017. The rule recommends 2017 payment rates for evaluation and management services and sleep services that are consistent with rates in 2016.
The rule also describes a number of proposed policy changes including: expansion of the Diabetes Prevention Program model; expansion of telehealth services to include advanced care planning and critical care services; and expanded payment for primary care services including collaborative care and care management.
CMS will accept comments on the proposals outlined in the rule and will finalize payment rates and policies in a final rule published later this year.
