DARIEN, IL – Sleep clinicians and scientists from around the world will discuss current practices in sleep medicine and the latest findings in sleep and circadian research at SLEEP 2016, the 30th anniversary meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC (APSS), which will be held June 11-15 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Preceded by postgraduate courses on June 11, the scientific program begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 12. General sessions include abstract presentations, symposia, clinical workshops and discussion groups on topics ranging from circadian rhythms and metabolism to telemedicine and precision medicine. Clinical sleep specialists also will discuss current practices in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea. Among the highlights:

  • More than 1,100 research abstracts will be presented, and press releases highlighting some of the intriguing research at SLEEP 2016 will be distributed during the meeting.   • The plenary session on Monday morning, June 13, will feature the keynote address, “Light, sleep and Clocks: Neuroscience to Therapeutics,” presented by Russell Foster, PhD, who is the director of the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi) at the University of Oxford.
  • AASM President-Elect Dr. Ronald Chervin will co-chair the discussion group, “A Crossroads for Sleep Medicine: Challenges, Choices, and Your Input,” on Monday afternoon, June 13.
  • AASM President Dr. Nathaniel Watson will present the invited lecture, “Exploring the Economic Benefits of OSA Diagnosis and Treatment,” on Tuesday morning, June 14.
  • Dr. Thomas Scammell will present the Thomas Roth Lecture of Excellence, “The Brain Circuitry of Narcolepsy: Mechanistic and Therapeutic Insights,” on Tuesday afternoon, June 14.
  • On Wednesday, June 15, a discussion group will meet to discuss, “Consensus Statement: Recommended Sleep Duration for Healthy Pediatric Populations,” led by Dr. Shalini Paruthi.
  • From Sunday, June 12 – Tuesday, June 14, the SLEEP 2016 poster presentations will be on display. Authors will be present to discuss their research during the official viewing hours.
  • From Monday, June 13, through Wednesday, June 15, the SLEEP 2016 exhibit hall will showcase the latest products and services available in the field of sleep medicine.
