The Department of Health and Human Services recently finalized a new implementation date for ICD-10-CM. Providers will be required to implement ICD-10-CM on October 1, 2015. This represents a one year delay to the previous implementation date. Hospitals, physician groups and payers are already working to meet the new deadline.

Provider education is important for a seamless transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM. The AASM has a number of ICD-10-CM resources available to assist members. A crosswalk, featuring correct coding for all sleep disorders described in the ICSD-3 is available on the AASM’s online store. The AASM Coding Education Program (A-CEP) also features an ICD-10 transition module. The module identifies major code changes and describes how sleep practices can implement ICD-10-CM. Finally, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) offers a number of ICD-10-CM resources for providers, which can be downloaded from the CMS website.
