Four months into my tenure as President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, I am continually encouraged by the support shown by my 9,500 colleagues who are members of the Academy. Our Academy’s strength is derived from all of you who volunteer on committees, task forces and other initiatives to advance our mission; utilize programs and services to foster your professional growth; and invest in the American Sleep Medicine Foundation and the AASM Political Action Committee to promote issues critical to our field.  I appreciate your continued support and thank you for being a member of the AASM. As we enter renewal season, I’d like to make you aware of a few changes designed for our members’ benefit.

For eight years, Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine has been an indispensable resource for professionals involved in clinical sleep medicine.  Recognizing the value of the journal for members, JCSM will be published monthly starting in January 2013. Look for an e-mail table of contents on the 15th of each month that highlights the latest issue.

We also recognize that research and technology is constantly changing how we practice clinical medicine. To keep our scoring rules current, we have transitioned the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events to an online, subscription-based platform. The subscription allows you access to the manual on multiple platforms – such as desktop and mobile devices – to meet your needs. And by moving to an online, subscription-based platform, we are able to update the manual on a regular basis so you and your staff are current.

Be sure to visit the AASM website to learn more about the new AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events and to renew your membership today.
