On November 1, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published the display copy of final rule for the 2013 physician fee schedule. The rule describes a 26.5 percent payment cut for all services based on the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. The payment cut will be implemented on January 1 unless Congress takes action to halt the payment reductions. The rule also outlines new payment opportunities for primary care services related to care coordination and transitional care management. AASM staff is in the process of reviewing the final rule in detail and will provide members with summary information about the rule and payment for sleep services in future editions of the Weekly Update.
