The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra signed a renewal of determination that extended the current COVID-19 public health emergency by 90 days, effective Jan. 11, 2023. The original determination was made in January 2020 and has been extended every three months.
On Jan. 30 the White House released a statement of administration policy indicating that its plan is to extend both the COVID-19 national emergency and the public health emergency to May 11, 2023, and then end both emergencies on that date.
Until May 11, the public health emergency allows for continued implementation of policies outlined in existing waivers that have been implemented because of the pandemic, including waivers pertaining to telemedicine.
