On Friday Oct. 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services posted the 2016 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule, which outlines 2016 payment and policies for Medicare physicians. It is the first physician fee schedule to reflect policies after the repeal of the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula, which was eliminated under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act signed into law earlier this year.
Payment for sleep services, and evaluation and management office visits, are expected to remain stable in 2016. The AASM is in the process of conducting a full analysis of the rule and will publish national projected payment rates in an upcoming edition of the Weekly Update.
