The American Sleep Medicine Foundation has redefined the Career Development Award Program, which is now broken down into three different grant opportunities to assist sleep investigators in various career levels.

The Physician Scientist Training Award is focused on promising young physician investigators at the fellowship or junior faculty level who intend to pursue an academic career in sleep medicine. This award supports mentored research in the academic setting.

The Bridge to Success Award for Early Career Investigators is focused on sleep scientists who have applied for an entry level career development award but whose applications are unlikely to be within the funding cutoff and who need additional time and resources to collect data and respond to the funding institution’s critique. The Bridge to Success Award for Mid-Career/Senior Investigators assists established researchers who have been independently supported by the NIH or other government grants for at least 5 years but whose current grant proposals are unlikely to be funded and are in the need of bridge funding.
