The Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program gives providers the opportunity to receive significant incentive payments for the demonstration of “meaningful use” of EHR technology. There is still time to get involved: 2011 is the first reporting year for the EHR incentive program.

What is meaningful use? CMS has developed a table of measures, a number of which must be met to demonstrate meaningful use. The table is available for download on the CMS website.

How do I select the right EHR technology? In order to receive incentives, you must use EHR technology that has been tested and approved by CMS. To find technology that meets CMS requirements, visit the Certified EHR Technology section of the CMS webpage.

Resources: The CMS website includes a number of other resources to prepare you for participation in the EHR incentive program.
