Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2012 testing window of the behavioral sleep medicine certification examination, which is administered by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM). Applications must be submitted by September 28, 2012. The examination fee is $300.

The BSM examination is open to applicants who possess a valid license and doctoral degree in psychology, nursing or social work (e.g., PhD, PsyD, DNSc, ND, DNP, DSW, DHS), and meet the outlined training/experience requirementsPlease note that the examination is not open to physicians who hold a medical degree (e.g., MD).

The content areas of the exam include clinical management, clinical assessment, behavioral medicine general principles/theory, sleep disorders, and basic science/sleep knowledge.

The exam will be offered through the ABSM’s testing partner, Kryterion. Eligible candidates will take the examination at one of Kryterion’s testing locations in the U.S. or Canada; a list of testing locations is available on the Kryterion website.

The examination will be administered by Kryterion from Oct. 1 – Nov. 16, 2012. After review and approval of applications, eligible candidates will receive instructions on how to register with Kryterion and schedule a testing date.
