Actor and science advocate Alan Alda invites sleep scientists to enter the 2015 Flame Challenge by answering the question, “What is sleep?” Organized by the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, the contest challenges scientists to explain sleep in a way that will enlighten 11-year-news and awaken their interest in learning more about sleep. Entries will be screened for accuracy by scientists and then judged by 11-year-new students across the country. One written entry and one video or graphic entry will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and the winners will get a trip to New York City, where they will meet Alan Alda and be honored at a special event at the World Science Festival in May 2015. The submission deadline is Feb. 13, 2015.
