AASM President Dr. Nathaniel Watson and board member Dr. Raman Malhotra will be participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) drowsy driving Forum, “Asleep at the Wheel, A Nation of Drowsy Drivers,” Nov. 4 – 5, 2015. The meeting will be led by NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind, PhD, and will include a series of panel discussions that will consider strategies for near and long-term action that can reduce drowsy driving crash risks. AASM Past President Dr. William Dement will give a keynote address about past efforts and future opportunities in sleep science.

Topics that will be discussed include:

  • Problem Identification & Measurement
  • Public Awareness, Behavior, and Education
  • Public and Corporate Policy
  • Vehicle Technology
  • Balancing the Needs for Research and Action

The meeting will be held at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters Media Center located at 1200 New Jersey Ave. S.E. in Washington, D.C. A live, streaming webcast of the event also will be available.
