The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recently recognized nine sleep centers for maintaining AASM accreditation for 40 continuous years, reflecting their long-standing dedication to providing high-quality care for people with sleep problems.
The AASM honored these programs during SLEEP 2026, the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, held June 14–17 in Baltimore. The nine programs are:
- Center for Sleep & Wake Disorders in Dayton, OH
- Gundersen Lutheran Sleep Center in La Crosse, WI
- Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center in Philadelphia, PA
- Kaweah Health Sleep Center in Visalia, CA
- Sentara Sleep Center-Norfolk in Norfolk, VA
- Sleep Disorders Clinic in Jackson, MS
- Southern California Sleep Disorders Specialists in Tustin, CA
- Tennova Sleep Center North in Powell, TN
- UAB Sleep/Wake Disorders Center in Birmingham, AL
AASM-accredited sleep centers offer comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care for people with sleep and alertness issues. Commonly treated disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
To earn and maintain accreditation, a sleep center must meet rigorous AASM standards across key areas such as personnel, facilities, policies, data collection, patient care, and quality assurance. Accreditation is granted in five-year increments. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
The AASM began accrediting sleep centers in 1977. Today, more than 2,300 sleep centers across the U.S. are AASM-accredited, representing a national commitment to excellence in sleep medicine.
