An AASM “Best practice guide for the treatment of nightmare disorder in adults” is in the Aug. 15 issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine. The purpose of the guide is to present recommendations on therapy of nightmare disorder, including medications such as prazosin and non-pharmacological treatment options such as image rehearsal therapy.
Best practice guides, which are developed by the AASM Standards of Practice Committee, summarize the research and give physicians recommendations on focused topics for which there are few high-quality studies. The AASM previously published a “Best practice guide for the treatment of REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD)” in February.
