On Jan. 24, 2014 the AASM submitted a comment letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the 2014 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule. The letter will serve as the basis for future conversations between the AASM and CMS staff concerning payment for sleep services. Specifically, the AASM comment letter argues for improved practice expense payment for pediatric sleep services as well as eliminating a proposal to cut actigraphy practice expense payment by 25 percent. The letter also notes that sleep service payment has faced numerous cuts over the past few years, making it difficult for AASM members to continue treating Medicare patients.

The AASM will continue to update members about advocacy initiatives related to sleep payment.
