On Feb. 13, 2023, Sunrise announced it received FDA clearance for its second-generation home sleep apnea test (HSAT) device. The device uses artificial intelligence (AI) to aid in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea and sleep-related breathing disorders.
About the Sunrise HSAT device
Using a lightweight sensor placed on the chin at night, the test measures sleep through the bio-signal of mandibular jaw movements. According to the company, data is collected through an app, analyzed with an algorithm using AI, and made available to health care providers via an online portal.
Sunrise’s at-home sleep apnea test is disposable and includes the ability for patients to complete multi-night testing. An automated report is available to providers within minutes of study completion.
About home sleep apnea tests
HSATs are portable devices designed to monitor and record key physiological parameters such as airflow, oxygen levels and breathing patterns during sleep. These convenient diagnostic tools offer an alternative to traditional in-lab sleep studies, providing a more accessible and comfortable option for detecting sleep apnea in the convenience of one’s own home.
