Colorado Dental Board to consider dentist’s role in managing sleep apnea

The Colorado Dental Board has created a committee comprising members of Colorado’s Dental Board and a member of the Colorado Medical Board to examine the current Dentist and Dental Hygienist Practice Act to determine if these rules and regulations should be revised to allow for more dental involvement in the management of obstructive sleep apnea.

Young football players getting bigger, developing higher risk of sleep apnea

As high school and college football teams continue practicing for he fall season, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is advising parents, coaches and school administrators that young football players are at increasingly higher risk of sleep apnea. Those with the greatest risk, especially offensive and defensive lineman who are heavier and have larger necks, should be evaluated by a board-certified sleep medicine physician.

AASM Congressional Forum on Sleep Medicine is a Success

A Washington D.C. forum sponsored by U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL) was attended by Congressional Health Policy staffers. The forum including presentations by sleep experts from the AASM, AADSM and SRS that educated lawmakers and their staff on the importance of effective sleep and the essential role of the sleep medicine and sleep research communities.
