Standards for Accreditation
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) developed its Standards for Accreditation to ensure the highest quality of care for patients with sleep disorders. As sleep medicine continues to evolve, the AASM regularly updates these standards to reflect new clinical practice models.
To better accommodate the changing landscape of sleep medicine, the AASM has transitioned to a service-based accreditation model. Under this model, standards for sleep facilities, independent sleep practices, and DME suppliers are now unified into a single set of Standards for Accreditation, which is divided into sections for Network, Site, Sleep Clinic, In-Lab Testing, HSAT, and DME Supplier.
Cardiology Practice Accreditation: Specialty Practice (Non-Sleep Practice) Accreditation Standards
Specialty Practice accreditation is for cardiology practices that manages its patients by screening for sleep apnea, performing home sleep apnea tests (HSATs) and facilitating treatment and management of sleep apnea through an AASM-accredited sleep clinic.
