The 2017 Medscape Physician Compensation Report shows that physician incomes have steadily increased over the past 7 years. Results are based on surveys completed by more than 19,000 physicians.
The top earners among all physicians are orthopedists ($489,000), and the lowest earners are pediatricians ($202,000). Other average earnings by specialty include:
- Anesthesiology – $364,000
- Pulmonary medicine – $310,000
- Neurology – $249,000
- Psychiatry – $235,000
- Internal Medicine – $225,000
- Family Medicine – $209,000
