In 2024, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine launched the #RepairMedicare campaign, encouraging Congressional leaders to put forth a long-term solution to the consistently declining Medicare reimbursement rates. The AASM continues to advocate for physician payment reform, as the continuing resolution that was passed by Congress to extend federal spending and avoid a government shutdown failed to address physician reimbursement for 2025.

In support of this effort, the AASM has launched an online campaign encouraging members to urge their congressional leaders to co-sponsor and support “H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2025.” The AASM has also signed on with many other medical societies to an AMA Federation letter urging Congress to include provisions that both reverse the latest round of Medicare payment cuts and provide physicians with a meaningful inflationary update in the forthcoming March 2025 appropriations bill.
