Dear Carolina Members:

As Hurricane Florence approaches the coastal Carolinas, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) board of directors is deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of our colleagues. A dangerous Category 4 hurricane, Florence is expected to be one of the strongest storms ever to hit the region, with destructive winds and potentially catastrophic flooding.

From my vantage point in Charlotte, I am well aware of the approaching danger for our coastal towns and cities. I urge all members who are in the storm’s path to ensure that you and your staff take every precaution to find safe refuge. I also remind you that financial assistance is available from the AASM Foundation Disaster Relief Fund if the storm causes any damage to your sleep facility.

If there are any other ways in which the AASM might be able to assist our colleagues during or after this storm, please contact me at dkirsch@aasm.org.

Sincerely,

Douglas Kirsch, MD
AASM President
